Bryce Moore has been in KHON2’s family for as long as he can remember, but he officially joined the team in early 2020.

He saw a few months of the news business as a KHON2 intern before the pandemic hit. “I got laid off at my restaurant job while interning for KHON and knew it was time to make the switch,” he said.

So, Bryce reached out and began working as a part-time Digital Media Producer for KHON2 until 2021, when he started as a full-time employee.

Born in Honolulu in 1998, Bryce grew up playing soccer in east Oahu and says the Channel 2 news was always on when he got home. “There might have been a little nepotism when mom chose which station to watch,” he said.

Bryce graduated from Mid Pacific Institute in 2016 and was a back-to-back state championship goalkeeper on the boys’ varsity soccer team. He then went on to study English as his major in college and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2020 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

“Graduating in Manoa from both high school and college means the world,” Bryce said, “Oahu is more than just an island to me. It’s home.”

He says that’s part of his reason for getting into the local news industry.  ”I know KHON,” Bryce said. “I know the work that gets done here is so important and it’s an honor to be included in it. But it’s not about me, it’s about the people, their stories and our responsibility to share them.”

The 23-year-old says he draws his inspiration from a key figure at KHON2 who happens to be close to his heart. “Joe, boy it’s weird to call him that, is everything I could ever aspire to be in a journalist,” Bryce said. “His way with words, pursuit of perfection and just his sensibility are some of the things I will always strive to achieve.”

Bryce is the son of KHON2’s Senior Anchor and News Editor, Joe Moore, but claims his good looks are from his mother, Teresa.
