Punahou's Takai advances into semifinals of Manoa Cup Women's Tournament

The Women's semifinal round at the 110th Manoa Cup at the Oahu Country Club is set.

Punahou sophomore to be Victoria Takai who was caddied by her younger sister Madison, earned her ticket into the final four with a 3-and-2 victory over Island Pacific Academy graduate and current Ohio State golfer Alanis Samuma on Wednesday, advancing to face top seeded Brittany Fan in Thursday's semifinal.

Fan, a Kamehameha graduate and current Colorado Buffaloes golfer is the tournament's top seed and defeated Anna Murata 7-and-6.

On the other side of the bracket, Kaylee Shimizu will face Allysha Mae Mateo.

Two-time defending champion, and the only women's title holder in Manoa Cup history Mari Nishiura is not in this year's tournament field, so a new winner will be crowned on Friday.

In the men's bracket, former University of Hawaii quarterback Hunter Hughes is among the players that advanced into the quarterfinals.

Hughes, defeated Thayne Costa 1-up and will face Nick Gerard on Thursday.

Defending champion Andy Okita along with 2012 winner Matthew Ma and 2015 champ Tyler Ota are also still in contention.
