Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week: Dara Tawarahara

By John Veneri

Take Punahou pitcher "Jeeter" Ishida, helping to deliver a 4th-straight state title to the buffanblu over the weekend.

But since he's already in the books as a former winner....we went to the pool...and an Iolani water polo player who helped the Raiders make history.

The 4th annual girls water polo state championships were a new thing for Iolani. Watching for the last three years as ILH teams were crowned champion.

The Raiders said this would be the year to win it and senior Dara Tawarahara led the way to a the teams first ILH championship and eventual state title.

Tawarahara had 12 goals in the state tournament, four in the championship game win over Kahuku which led to her being named the tournaments most valuable player. An achievement that has caught the attention of her classmates and teachers.

A former hardcore swimmer and member of the Iolani varsity team, Dara is now headed to college on a full water polo scholarship to the University of the Pacific. She's thankful that a few teammates talked her into playing water polo in high school.

Congratulations to Iolani's Dara Tawarahara...our KHON2 Athlete of the Week.
