Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week: Harrison 'Jeeter' Ishida

By Kanoa Leahey

Three straight state titles and going for more.

Last week, the three time defending champion Punahou baseball team put the wraps on an undefeated run through the ILH regular season.

And one of the guys responsible is junior pitcher Harrison Ishida, a member of the last two title teams who holds a 5-and-0 record heading into the league tournament...which starts this week.

He also just happens to be our selection as the KHON2 Athlete of the Week.

Seems like when it's all on the line...the guy known as "Jeeter"...is at his best.

Ishida, ever the humble hurler gives credit to his hitters for his cool demeanor.

It's testimony to punahou's true power that lineup combined with that pitching. Ishida is one of three junior starters all without a loss this year.

But Jeeter, who was considered by many to be the state's best pitcher last year as a sophomore...is the "ace" featuring a mid-to-high 80 mile-per-hour fastball...an accompanying splitter, curveball and newly-developed changeup.

Now he and the buffanblu are looking to extend their success into the post-season.

You'd expect a guy nicknamed "Jeeter" to handle pressure well...but as it turns out...Jeeter...spelled "j-e-e-t-e-r", has nothing to do with Yankee great Derek Jeter.

Congratulations to Harrison Jeeter Ishida...the KHON2 Athlete of the Week.
