Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week: Ashley Medcalf

By Kanoa Leahey

Christian Academy's Ashley Medcalf will likely be going to college on an athletic scholarship...in soccer.

But the 3-sport athlete can sure impact a hoops-game as well...just ask word of life...a team against whom, Medcalf nearly posted a triple-double.

That ability has the small team from a small school...thinking big goals in the ILH division-2.

As part of a senior class comprised of 10-students...Medcalf stands out regardless...but throw in her awesome achievements in volleyball, soccer and basketball...along with her 3.9 grade point average...and you got "star potential".

The truth is in the numbers...entering last weekend, Medcalf was averaging almost 30-points per game in league play...and how about the line against word of life...25-points, 24-rebounds, and 9-blocked shots.

Ironically...Medcalf and the Patriots are now up against a different opponent....injury.

Last Friday...Medcalf went down with a knee injury...a torn meniscus, and strained posterior cruciate ligament.

She'll likely sit out a few...and hope to return to action at least, come playoff time.

Christian Academy is 3-and-5...but are guaranteed a spot in the post-season, with a chance to qualify for states.

With some luck, some faith, and a healthy knee...the little school atop Red Hill, might be making big news, very soon.

Congratulations to Ashley Medcalf...the KHON2, athlete of the week.
