Athlete of the Week: Cyril Ontai

By Kanoa Leahey

Last Friday, the Kapolei football team set out to "shock the world."

At the very least...the Hurricanes shocked the state by taking down defending champ, Kahuku 14-7 IN THE OIA Red.

Quarterfinals...becoming just the second Hawaii team in eleven years to top the Red Raiders...on Kahuku's home field.

Cyril Ontai, is a guy who almost never leaves the field during a game for Kapolei...and is referred to by his coach, as the squad's "heart and soul."

Playing over his head is something Ontai has made a career of at Kapolei.

The junior linebacker also plays runningback and is on just about every special teams unit.

Last Friday was perhaps his "piece de resistance"...recording 17 tackles, scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a two-yard run in the first half, and helping to milk the clock in the fourth quarter..."En route" to the biggest win in Kapolei's six year Varsity history.

And getting it done...on and off the field.

Ontai's also a 4.0 student, who prides himself on effort.

And the hard work continues this week as the Canes now prepare for Waianae in the semifinal round this Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

Kapolei lost to the Seariders, 28-7, back on October 13.

And "all out" is what Ontai does best.
