Starting Sunday, the state will shut down all eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway from Likelike Highway to Ward Avenue from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday.
Area residents and just about anybody who drives into town from west and central Oahu, look out! The H-1 Freeway is going to be closed overnight.
“That’s going to affect everybody. Everybody is going to be late to where they need to go and everyone needs to plan ahead of time,” Kalihi resident Lynn Agbunag said.
“It’s more than just a surface repaving,” Department of Transportation spokesperson Caroline Sluyter said. “So we’re really digging deep in some areas to get about 12 inches deep to repair and rehabilitate the surface to have a smoother driving surface for years to come.”
“I am in trouble,” Aiea resident Mary Fusikata said, “I have to leave very early then I start at 9 a.m.”
Earlier this month, the DOT started informing the public of the lane and freeway closures.
Flyers were sent out, signs have been put up, and news reports are getting the word out.
“I heard about something. I don’t know if it was west or east. I don’t know, I got confused,” Makiki resident Martin Asuncion said.
“I don’t think it’s going to have as much an effect. Not as much if it’s overnight,” Makiki resident Matt Treadud said.
