Obama Prepares for Fall Campaign, Clinton Running Out of Money and Time

By KHON News

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is building on the momentum of his landslide victory in the North Carolina primary last night.

Today, he picked up the support of at least four more superdelegates.

Hillary Clinton, who scored a narrow win in Indiana, says she is moving ahead with her candidacy, despite a cash crunch and a new call from a respected party elder for her to drop out of the race.

Clinton is determined, tireless, and in West Virginia.

“West Virginia is one of those so-called swing states – Democrats need to win it in the fall – I want to start by winning it in the spring,” said Clinton.

West Virginia should not be a problem...everything else is.

Clinton has had to lend her campaign more than $6 million recently.

A new email by the Clinton camp urgently asks for donations.

The message said “we have never campaigned with the stakes as high or the time as short” – perhaps shorter than she thinks.

George McGovern, whose ties to the Clinton's date back to McGovern's 1972 campaign has switched his support to Barack Obama.

He argues the math makes it all but certain Obama will win.

The time has come, McGovern said, for all of us to unite.

Clinton put on her game face and said, “I respect him and he can make any decision.”

McGovern is a psychological blow, but he is not a superdelegate.

Senator Diane Feinstein is and she is also a Clinton supporter.

Today, Feinstein told reporters "the race is reaching a point" of negative dividends for the party.

It is a simple sentence and an ominous sign for Hillary Clinton.

She cannot withstand large superdelegate defections

Clinton wants the time to try to close the delegate gap with Obama.

While arguing other equations and other criteria, Clinton said, “We should stay focused on nominating the stronger candidate against Senator McCain and who would be the best president.”

Clinton met privately today with a group of superdelegates, pushing her case, and asking for time.

Hillary Clinton wants to move on.

Barack Obama was home in Chicago today, while his strategists begin to look toward the fall campaign.
