Before throwing your labor day barbecue - a warning about those popular outdoor fire pots and the gel used inside. The CPSC and the manufacturers of nine types of pourable gel fuels issued a voluntary recall.
Due to the serious risks of flash fire and burns when consumers add pourable gel to an already burning fire pot, consumers should immediately stop using the pourable gel fuel.So far, the CPSC says two people have died and 65 people have been burned.
"Even when it splashes the shirt can be on fire and the flame cannot readily be seen. so the standard way of putting out a flame does not work. water very rarely works, patting it or smothering the flame doesn't work so you have to use a dry chemical extinguisher to get the flame out," said CPSC Chairman Inez Tenebaum.About 2 million bottles of gel fuels packaged in one-quart plastic bottles and one-gallon jugs are being recalled. They were sold in scented and non-scented formulas since 2008.
