So what's behind Tuesday morning's bickering in the house on same-sex marriage?
KHON2 asked a political analyst to break it down.
"I think we have to remember that politics is politics and like in comedy everything in politics is timing. So what you're going to see is people taking advantage of a situation to settle perhaps not the current issue but a long standing vendetta," Hawaii Pacific University Communications Department Chair John Hart said.
"There were two ways to go about this. Linda Lingle, who for personal and political reasons did not want a vote in the congress, encouraged this go to a plebiscite. The people voted for it, at that time, they did not support it, " Hart said. "Gov. Abercrombie, a different governor with a different agenda who is in favor of same sex marriage, is taking to congress. Why? Simple. He knows he has the votes there. It will get passed."
If it gets passed, Hawaii would be the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage.
