A career criminal who was known by authorities as the "Gingerbread Man" remains in the hospital.
Honolulu police say 35-year-old Amery Kahale-Sugimura raced away on a stolen motorcycle on Tuesday after they tried to arrest him.
He crashed the motorcycle next to Alvah Scott Elementary School.
Authorities say he then entered a home, hit the owner in the head, stole the homeowner's truck, and tried to escape.
Police officers opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
Kahale-Sugimura is charged with burglary, operating a stolen car, and drug offenses.
He is being held on $250,000 bail.
