A Mokulele Airlines plane made an emergency landing on a main highway on Maui Monday night.
According to the Maui County Fire Department, the plane had engine trouble and was forced to make an emergency landing.
There were eight passengers and two pilots on board the Mokulele Airlines plane. No one was injured.
The emergency landing happened around 7 p.m. in the Kihei area near Maui Meadows.
The plane landed in the middle of Piilani Highway near the Kilohana Drive intersection. It's a busy highway that connects central Maui to Kihei and Wailea.
"It didn't even land that rough. It was a really clean landing. And the odd thing, too, again because of the width of Piilani Highway, the wingspan was just just inside. If you landed it in the center of the highway, the wings just missed the power lines and light posts. It fit right in between -- only a few yards to spare," said witness Shaun Doyle of Kihei.
"I saw the cars in the flow of traffic that were headed straight for it. I mean, cars were having to move out of the way left and right to avoid an airplane landing literally on their hood. It was pretty bizarre," Doyle said.
The flight departed Kahului and was headed to the Big Island.
