A young man is in critical condition last night after being struck in a crosswalk by a van near the 7-Eleven store at 1247 Kailua Road.

The incident was reported shortly after 9:00p.m. The Kailua Road was closed to Uluoa Street and traffic was rerouted around the block, then back onto Kailua Road while police vehicular homicide investigators investigated the scene.

Darren Lecker, a Kailua resident shares his story on a conversation he had with the victim at 7-11 a few minutes before the accident occurred.
