Grow Hawaiian Festival

The Grow Hawaiian Festival is a free day-long event, sponsored by Hawaiian Electric and hosted by the Bishop Museum, that celebrates the Hawaiian culture and Hawaii's native plants.

It will feature scheduled presentations by leading arts practitioners, a guided tour of Bishop Museum’s garden of native and indigenous plants, a native plants sale, and informational booths on local conservation and sustainability efforts.

The cool thing about it is that leading biologists, conservationists, horticulturists, kumu hula, and historians will talk about the selection, care, and traditional uses of the native and Polynesian-introduced plants of Hawaii. And foremost practitioners of Hawaiian arts, including lei makers, ipu makers, kapa makers, weavers, and woodworkers, will demonstrate their art.

Basically, the event is being held in honor of Earth Day, to honor the Hawaiian culture, to promote sustainable stewardship of the environment, and to encourage members of the community to make the best choices for the future of Hawaii.
