More than 2,500 furloughed Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard workers returned to work Monday.
Civilians at other Department of Defense commands were also back on the job.
"I did because we're double DOD's, with little kids. So, it's a big impact if you're not working," Department of Defense civilian employee Mimi Eaves said. "Both of us, my husband and I, are DOD employees."
"It's frustrating. It's kind of embarrassing to see that neither side will give a little and all these people are suffering. There were people at work who were crying last week about the furloughs going on," Department of Defense civilian employee Tara Kelly said.
A bill being considered by lawmakers in Washington, D.C. will allow employees to get paid for the work time they missed due to the furloughs.
Sources tell KHON2 that state Department of Health Director Loretta Fuddy died in a plane crash off Molokai.
Loretta Fuddy devoted 30 years to the health and human services industry.
