24-hours after Wednesday night's fatal collision on the Pali highway, a witness has come forward. Saying a dark Green colored Honda Civic came speeding past her and an HPD officer just minutes before the crash.
"He hit on break really fast and I turned to my husband and said I hope this cop pulls this car over, he's going really fast," said Shontaz Naweli.
Instead, Naweli says the Civic's driver kept going quickly approaching the Wylie street overpass, when an SUV pulled out in front.
"The speeding car got revenge, went out on next lane and banged that car and after that a whole bumper car action, boom, boom, boom," described Naweli.
Within a matter of seconds two cars lost control and were forced off the road: the SUV and another Honda Civic. That driver, 43-year old Michael Borges, crashed on Coelho way and later died.
Borges' wife Frances was also in that car.
"She remembers just being cut off and Mike losing control of the car and slamming into the wall," said Tricia Miyashiro, victim's sister.
"No one was racing. This guy was probably on a road rage already starting from Kailua," said Naweli. "I know that car is damaged because of what happened to that other car."
"Whatever happened whoever may have caused if they can come forward and let us you know have closure," said Bernadette Borges, victim's mother.
Police are still asking for witnesses. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 955-8300.
