The wave surges at Waikiki Beach on Oahu were noticed shortly after 3:20 a.m. Friday.

It was a substantial surge and completely covered the breakwall by Kapahulu Avenue in a matter of five minutes.

A second, larger surge was noticed at 3:38 a.m.

A few people were spotted on the beach watching the surges.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage.

City officials are urging residents not to go near coastal areas.

When it is safe to do so, emergency responders will assess the ocean and beach conditions to determine the extent of damage and dangers.

The official "All Clear" for the island of Oahu and the City and County of Honolulu will be issued exclusively by Mayor Peter Carlisle based on shoreline hazard information received from City responders.  The "All Clear" message will be broadcast over TV and radio.  There is no siren sounding for an "All Clear".

Following the "All Clear" broadcast residents may not be able to return to coastal areas for an extended period of time.  Monitor TV and radio for important emergency information updates.

Post the clip with the umbrella or pole stuck into the sand. That's really visually convincing.
