An upper-level low pressure system just southwest of Honolulu is causing quite a bit of instability, triggering areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms. This should continue through Tuesday as the low moves northeast over us. There is also a good amount of moisture riding in on the tradewind flow, plus with daytime heating you can expect the chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms to increase in the afternoons. The instability has also brought snow to the summit of Mauna Kea. We should have breezy tradewind weather for the second half of the week.
