Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back on the big screen, with muscles more lifelike than ever.
His new movie, "Journey 2, The Mysterious Island," is in 3D and was filmed on location in Hawaii.
Johnson plays the lead role in the fantasy adventure film that is a sequel to the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth. While the original movie, with a different star, did pretty well in the box office, Johnson says this one takes it to another level with spectacular eye-popping scenery in 3D.
"One of the ways to make it better, we take it off the sound stage and we come here to Hawaii and we see the vastness, the beauty of Hawaii, the mountains, the rainforest," Johnson explained, "because there's a texture that makes people go wow, specially in 3D.">
Kualoa Ranch and Waimea Valley serve as backdrops for some of the scenic locations in the movie.
The film was shot here in the Fall of 2010.
For the local boy who grew up in Honolulu, Journey 2 also represents a personal journey. He's come a long way from that troubled teenager who attended McKinley High School.
"For me, I was a punk kind running around when I was 14, getting arrested, doing a lot of things I shouldn't be doing," Johnson said. "To go to this man, being able to bring this movie back, pump millions of dollars into the economy, make a lot of local people happy, it's very special to me."
It's not just the scenery that's eye-popping. The movie's 3D effects will be even more spectacular when Johnson shows off some of his skills from professional wrestling.
"Journey 2, The Mysterious Island" opens on February 10th.
