The nation's most senior member of the United State's Senate returned home on Tuesday.
Now third in the line to the presidency, Dan Inouye travels with a group whose mission is to serve and protect.
"In my wildest dreams I didn't think that i'd be after 50 years," says Senator Inouye.
A respected leader who has served eight consecutive terms, Senator Dan Inouye is now the most senior member of the U.S. Senate.
Following the death last month of West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, Inouye was honored with the distinction of president pro-tem. That puts him third in line for the Presidency after Vice President Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
"Well obviously he is number three in terms of the ranking in congress, obviously he is traveling with a security detail now that's probably somewhat of a change for him," says Vaughn Vasconellos, a supporter of Senator Inouye.
U.S. Capital Police officers accompany the Senator where ever he goes to ensure his safety.
And as it stands right now their duties could continue for a few more years.
"I will faithfully discharge my duties a united states senator," says Senator Inouye.
The Senator who will turn 86 years-old this year says he has no plans to retire anytime soon, he filed for re-election hoping to secure his ninth term in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
"Well this may sound as though i am psychotic or something but i have never had a vacation in my life."
Another six year term for the senator is something he says he is willing to commit to.
"I just like to work I seem to love challenges and there are many at this time," says Inouye.
"And when he finally does decide to step down i think it will be tough i think it will be tough for all of us," says Vaughn.
