Hanalei Bay is one of the most beautiful spots on this planet and home to some of the best surfers in the world, including a surfer girl like you've never seen before.

Veteran surfer Billy Hamilton and his loveable labrador Sava have turned heads at Hanalei Bay for years.

"Most people that ride with their dogs, the dog just stands there, not with Sava," said marine biologist Terry Lilley. "It's amazing when I was shooting water videos of them, Bill stands on the back but if they go to pearl, Sava moves back on the board so they don't pearl."

Lilley says he's filmed many surfing dogs but he says not one comes close to what Sava can do.

"Sava will ride the wave if Bill falls off, will continue to ride the whole wave and then Sava will turn around and go, whoa where did you go dad," he said. "They do a bottom turn need to get some speed, Sava goes right up to the nose to balance Bill's weight to get more speed this dog knows how to surf."

While most surfing dogs ride ankle snapping waves, this tandem doesn't shy away from big surf.

"Bill took a couple late drops on a four-to-five foot face wave, late drops going straight down with that dog and pulled off t drop and the turn," said Lilley. "I don't know a lot of surfers with no dog on the board that would have made some of those late drops and pulled it off."

Lilley has more than 3000 hours of high-definition underwater footage throughout the Hawaiian islands that he's made into mini-movies. He's included many of them on a blog as part of a new non-profit group that hopes to educate Hawaii's children.

"The blog is going to have literally hundreds of five minute movies that are going to go to schools all throughout Hawaii," said Lilley. "All of it is to get the kids interested in the marine environment so they learn a lot about it and they can make good decisions to keep it healthy down the road."
