The El Nino weather phenomenon has re-appeared in the East Pacific.

According officials at the National Weather Service, Hawaii could be hit with some un welcomed weather.

An El Nino occurs when water tempatures spike in the East Pacific, leading to an increase in tropical cyclone development.

Hawaii most powerful hurricanes hit during El Nino years. Another danger is the lack of rainfall during El Nino years.

"You're gonna see potentially monthly rainfall values of less than 50 percent of normal, across a lot of areas of the state and especially even wet places," said Ray Tanabe of the National Weather Service.

That's potentially devastating for already drought sticken areas. Areas that were looking toward the upcoming wet season for relief.

The best things we can do to ride out this El Nino phenomenon is to conserve water and be prepared for an active hurricane season.
