In less than six months, maui county's ban on plastic bags will take effect.

Administrative rules for the ban have now been drafted, and the county will hold a public hearing allowing business owners and residents a chance to weigh in.

The rules cover which types of plastic bags will still be allowed, including those used solely for wrapping raw meat, fruits and vegetables, or to protect garments.

County officials will also go over terms of violation and fines.

The meeting will be take place on Tuesday, August 17th at the County Planning Department on South High Street, starting at noon.
