The recent eruption at Kilauea volcano is peaking the interest of NASA scientists.

NASA says it will use the Kamoamoa eruption to better understand the movement of the Earth.

They've released this radar image that shows the relative deformation of the Earth's surface at Kilauea, between February and the March eruption.

A NASA aircraft will leave California this weekend for a 9-day mission over the big island, where it will use the radar technology to detect and measure deformations caused by earthquakes and volcanoes.

Eventually they hope the technology will help improve response to volcanic hazards in the pacific.
