Four weeks into Summer and the heat is on....

"It's sill unbearable. Real hot and muggy, it's just uncomfortable," says Laura Turro.

She and her family were hoping to cool off at Kaimana beach, near Waikiki.

"Yeah it's pretty hot, I mean it's pretty late to come to the beach, but we still came, it's still hot so we had to jump in the water," she says.

"We just came from the house and we are all sweating, like 115-degrees in the house," says Beth Turro.

It's no where near triple digits, but National Weather Service Forecasters say this summer it can feel like a scorcher.

"I was outside earlier this morning, and it definitely felt hot to me.  And I think that's because trade-winds were light to non-existent in some areas," says Tom Birchard, National Weather Service.

On 10 of the past 20 days, wind speeds on Oahu failed to reach above 10-miles-per-hour.

"No wind, really.  The trade-winds have been real bad," says Laura Turro.  "Still heat."

"That's what leads people to feel like it has been warmer than normal, because sort of our natural A/C has been turned down a notch or two," says Birchard.

The Ruman family discovered that on their hike of Diamond Head Crater.

"We're from Michigan. So we don't know about trade-winds, we took any wind we could get up there," says Dave Ruman.

Lucky for them, relief was waiting. A Shave-Ice truck churning out cool drinks and sweets.

"Yeah we fed him about $50 worth of Shave-Ice or something," jokes Ruman.

"Good for business, I guess, if you're in to helping people cool off," says Birchard.

Forecasters say this summer it will take a bit more energy to cool your home or office.

"Cooling degree days so far this year indicate since June 1st, at least, it has been warmer as opposed to the same period last year," says Birchard.

Forecasters says light trade winds and hot and humid weather are expected to stick around all summer long through August & September.
