A Florida couple is experiencing the aloha spirit in action.Their weekend wedding reception in Miami was interrupted by gunfire.
But on Wednesday, they had a special surprise at Turtle Bay.
The day Felicia and Michael Ramirez said " I do" was supposed to be a dream come true, but it quickly turned into a nightmare.
Their wedding reception at the Miami Beach Hotel was interrupted by violence.
Police evacuated the hotel after a man was shot to death at the resort.
The Ramirez reception was ruined.
“They just told us to leave, to come down,” sobbed Felicia the night of her reception.
Now the couple is in paradise...spending their honeymoon at the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's North Shore.
When the hotel staff found out from the bride's sister about the interrupted reception, they had an idea.
“We figured we needed to. A wedding reception is a life long memory and we wanted to create that memory for them,” said Turtle Bay Resort V.P. Bob Boyle.
And so they threw them a surprise reception, right in the hotel lobby.
“Just a big surprise, “said Felicia. “We just had the one dance and then the dance just started and they cut us then, so we didn't enjoy anything, I mean the garter toss, nothing. “
But this reception was uninterrupted.
With a Hawaiian prayer and not one but three champagne toasts!
And of course don't forget the cutting of the wedding cake.
“It's really special what they did for us and we could never thank them enough for what they've done,” said newlywed Michael Ramirez
“This makes up for it not completely but there's a lot of people that want to wish us good and we're really happy to be here and the one thing that matters is us,” said Felicia.
The Ramirez's next stop is Maui.
They'll be there for a week and then it's back on a plane to Miami on July 9th.
