A recent national study shows about 23 percent of people in Hawaii are obese, the new year is often a time when folks make New Year's resolutions, with the most popular being lose weight.
If you think that's impossible, think again.
We introduced you to Dallas Carter in August of 2008.
His weight loss story was truly remarkable, nearly 200 pounds through proper diet and plain old hard work, which is something anyone can do, you just need the right reason.
"Do you want to lose weight, or is it because someone told you you need to lose weight, that is really important. If you have it in you, if it's something that you really want, and it's something that is your personal goal, then you can succeed at whatever you want," said Carter.
Carter says plan the work, then work the plan.
But anyone who has tried to lose weight before knows it's easy to stumble.
"The one thing that you can't do is be discouraged. You have to start over again. Let's say that your goal is to lose 30 pounds or 20 pounds, and you lose five pounds and then you stumble. Well the next day you wake up as if you're starting over again," Carter said.
You may not want or need to lose as much weight as Carter, still you can't be casual about wanting the weight to come off.
"A lifestyle change. It really is a desire to be more healthy. So, you have to look at from that perspective of changing your lifestyle. Making it a part of who you are," Carter said.
It's been a life changer for Carter, who just featured in People Magazine.
He also won $250,000 in a national contest.
And Carter says not to be afraid to feel good about your accomplishments and celebrate them, take it from him, he knows how hard it can be.
"You know they say 80 percent of the people who lose that much weight gain it back within a few years. And I've been at this weight, give or take a couple of pounds for two or three years now. And for me I know that helping other people, that accountability, the fact that there are eyes on me, it helps," Carter said.
Inspiration for anyone wanting to lose a few pounds.
