Wahiawa residents were out in full force to wave the red white and blue as they marched along the parade route.

Now in its 64th year, this is the day to give thanks to all those who served their country.

"I love all the American patriots and I thank all the guys in the military for their service. God bless them each and everyone of them,” said Daniel Ward.

It's a message that keeps getting handed down to the younger generations.

Aileen Omori has been a regular spectator for the past 55 years.

It's important not just to her but for her grandchildren.

"To respect the military and the veterans and to appreciate what the veterans do for us,” said Aileen.

The military has been a big part of the community with Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Air Base nearby.

So when tragedy strikes from far away, like the massacre in Fort Hood, Texas, this community feels it too.

"Seeing that this past week in the news and stuff it really brings back seeing how we can even get injured here back in the U.S.,” said Byron Watanabe.

Above all else though, this parade is about being proud and paying respect to veterans.

“We love our country whenever we see a parade like this the military and the flags and it always brings a lot of pride,” said Vern Omori.
