Despite bankruptcy, a group from the Honolulu Symphony continues to play.
A quartet of symphony bassoonists performed for dozens of people on Sunday in a free concert at Studio 909.
In return, the musicians asked for donations, since many of them have been out of work.
The Honolulu Symphony has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since late last year.
About a week ago, the Board of Directors announced that talks were deadlocked because the Musicians Union rejected it's best and final offer. The Board then announced three days ago that they had "accepted the resignation of the musicians."
This "resignation" came to a surprise to some of the musicians.
"Of course the 84 musicians were surprised to hear that as we haven't resigned," said Jonathan Parrish of the Musicians Union.
"I don't know what's next. I've never had an employer tell me I've resigned before..but we'll see how that goes. I don't think that's a very valid resignation," said Parrish.
Parrish says the musicians have invested years in the symphony and they're still dedicated to its mission of providing symphonic music to the people of Hawaii.
