A Hawaii lawmaker is joining others across the nation in introducing "Caylee's Law" which would make it a felony for family members who do not promptly report a missing child, abuse, neglect or death of a child.

Representative John Mizuno says he will propose the measure at the start of the 2012 legislative session.

The effort comes after Florida mom Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murdering her daughter Caylee.

Anthony did not report her daughter missing for 31-days.

“The main thing here is the safety of the child.  We want to make sure we get that child out of the harm's way as soon as we can immediately,” said Mizuno.

Mizuno says the current law does not require family members to report child abuse, neglect, or when a child goes missing to police or the department of human services.

Similar bills are being considered in about a dozen other states.

I believe that the bigger concern on the "limiting" factor of the new law is that it will not bring justice to the case in question and undoubtedly function only as a negligible deterrent

I'm surprised there was still room on the band wagon for another politician to jump on.

Another knee-jerk reaction by a politician to pass a law which essentially invades our personal privacy. I certainly hope that the ACLU will oppose Mizuno's efforts.
