The Hawaii Air National Guard broke ground Friday on a state-of-the-art F-22 Raptor maintenance facility.

The $37.1 million facility will be built at joint base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

The Hawaii Air National Guard will eventually have 20 raptors in its fleet.

So far, nine have arrived in the islands.

Governor Neil Abercrombie says, "This project is here as a result of fierce competition that is to say winning fierce competition in terms of priorities as what should be done for the national guard."

The new facility will use nearly no electricity during the day thanks to photo-voltaic panels and other green construction methods.

Officials expect the facility to be finished in two years.

So much money on an aircraft that has done nothing during these campains. This is supposed to be the best plane out there but I have heard of no actual missions that they have been used for.
