Gas Prices Heating Up in Hawaii

It has been a slow and gradual climb for the cost of a gallon of gas in Honolulu, across the state for that matter, as the numbers have inched noticeably higher.

“What we are seeing currently is a gradual increase of one to two cents at a time versus a huge spike like we've seen in the past,” said Chris Olvera of AAA Hawaii.

And right now in Honolulu a regular gallon of gas averages $3.48 a gallon.

That's a nickel increase over a month ago.

Compared with a year ago it's more than a dollar more.

"With the world economy being a little bit more unstable last year we saw a huge spike in gas prices and the dollar per barrel went a lot higher than it has this year...Because the world economy is stabilizing we're seeing more of a stable increase when it does come to gas prices,” said Olvera.

But as summer quickly approaches it's not just the temperatures that we can expect to see rise.

"Typically in the summer time prices do increase, but we are not oil industry experts, and we can't predict exactly what the prices will be come the summer time,” said Olvera.

And once again, Hawaii lead the nation.

The only other states averaging more than three dollars a gallon -- Alaska and California.

Hilo residents are paying $3.47 a gallon for regular gas.

Lihue, Kauai residents pay $3.55 and in Kahului, Maui it’s $3.84 for a gallon of gas.

Come on $10 per gallon! The higher it gets, the bigger the Ka-ching I hear! Tough luck to those that too absorbed into dirty politics. Tea party, lame! Stick out your hand for donation. You won't be able to cough up for gas money to drive those SUV and so what luxury cars ;)

To any one who reads these comments: There will be a Tea Party Demonstration on April 15th 4PM-7PM at the State Capitol. Come on out and make your grievances known. Bring your signs: No more taxes! Conservatives have little or NO voice in our legislature due to the Democrat Super Majority. They can override every veto of tax legislation and have done so on numerous occasions. This is TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. This is NOT a Republican vs Democrat issue. It's a TAXPAYER ISSUE. I hope thousands of you show up to let our legislature know that they need to change their tax and spend habits. We will have strength is numbers so be there on April 15th. Hawaii's government is broken. By your support of this event, we CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Our legislature has nothing better to do than raise our taxes. The vote to raise the "barrel tax" by our legislature, among the many other taxes they just raised is just an example of their inability to control their spending. I'd like and answer to Endlesslove78's question. Just where are the gas taxes going? Where are all of the taxes going? I demand and audit! I'll bet Tam isn't the only one abusing tax payer funds! audit the books, audit them all!

Switch to a solar electric car and press for adequate bike lanes and you can ignore gas pump prices.
