There is an organization in Hawaii dedicated to helping others, and the members of that group do it for free.
RSVP is a strictly volunteer organization. You have to be 55 years old or better and be willing to help out your friends and neighbors.
"Those that have some free time that want to give back to the community and help with either home bound seniors or even with young children in the schools so the can share their talents, their skills and they can give back to the community," said Johnell Yamamoto, the director of RSVP.
RSVP volunteer Lorraine Caceras has done everything from mentor children to sing and dance at senior centers to help with household chores.
"There are a lot of people that didn't have a lot of money to pay for somebody to come in and do those things so I used to go in and help you know and it's good for you to do it," said Caceras.
She's right - she gets as much out of her volunteering as those she helps.
"I learned a lot of things that I didn't know that I could do and I used to type, then they came out with the processors and I bought a processor and learned that and then I went to a computer and now I can also work on a computer," said Caceras.
Right now, RSVP is trying to expand their volunteer roster.
"We're looking at clubs, at senior rec centers, we're also trying to recruit even from some of the senior fairs or events where people coming by and we're also using our existing volunteer base to see if they might have friends or family members that want to join in," said Yamamoto.
There are times when 87 year old Lorraine volunteers five days a week!
"There's an old saying that if you want something done, ask somebody that's busy," Caceras quipped.
