Queen's Medical Center handed out free motorcycle and moped helmets Monday at the U.H. Manoa campus.

Noticing a disturbing trend in the types of injuries their emergency room is seeing, the staff is hoping to raise awareness.. and make sure students are safer on the road.

"Data have shown repeatedly that we get almost one college student a day in Hawaii's emergency departments," said Cora Speck of Queen's Medical Center. "In past 10 years, it's been average of I believe there are 326 per year. And that is only for that very small age group. So we just want to target them."

Dozens of riders showed up for the event.
