Mauka bound traffic was redirected near the intersection of California Avenue & Plum Street in Wahiawa after a car hit a light pole.

Police say an 84-year-old woman driving a white car hit the light pole, causing it to fall onto mauka bound lanes.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and pronounced dead a short time later.

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Jean Shimaura of Wahiawa.

"At this time it's unknown if any medical condition contributed to this accident and that's under investigation," said Lt. David Nielsen of the Honolulu Police Department.

Police also say they don't believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
