STORY SUMMARY>>>>>
The civil unions bill could get a last-ditch chance to pass this legislative session. Supporters say the measure which deadlocked in committee, could be pulled to the floor by Thursday. But even many supporters of the issue don't back the strategy.
Both supporters and opponents of civil unions are still keeping a close watch over senate lawmakers.
The process has become as much of a hot button as the issue itself. The bill cleared the house, but deadlocked in the senate's judiciary committee. A previous effort to circumvent that and pull it to the senate floor failed. Supporters want senators to try again.
Strong supporters in the senate say another effort to recall or even waive the measure to the floor could happen, they say likely Thursday for a move to pull for second reading, with passage Friday if it makes it.
The senate president and several others who voted "no" on the last effort to recall say they haven't changed their minds.
The judiciary chair himself, Senator Brian Taniguchi tells KHON2 he would not be offended by another recall effort though he would expect it to be discussed first in caucus.
The judiciary chairman also told KHON2 he's open to voting "yes" with reservations if someone else brings about a recall effort, though he's not committing to anything in advance of hearing caucus and floor discussion.
