The city unveiled a new software system today, which Mayor Hannemann says will allow city projects to be handled more efficiently, and will improve public safety.

For example, upgradse to the city's wireless 9-1-1 emergency response system will now enable to first responders to see high resolution images to help pinpoint the location of the caller.

"We've located missing hikers, the police department has even reported they found a kidnapped victim in the trunk of a car using the enhanced 9-1-1 location system," said Keith Rollman of the city Department of Information Technology.

The new system will also allow departments to keep track of the status of various jobs and projects, like street resurfacing and sidewalk maintenance in a more efficient way.
