Obama Administration Tackles Math and Science Education

The Obama administration rolled out new plans to improve science and math education.

President Obama cited numbers indicating the nation's youth is falling behind other industrialized countries in math and science.

He announced key programs which will boost learning in these subjects and, provide funding to states to help them do it.

The white house said it is enlisting the help of Sesame Street favorites Elmo and Big Bird along with some big name companies and foundations.

“Through the Race to the Top program, states won't just be receiving funding, they'll have to compete for funding. And in this competition producing the most innovating programs in math and science will be an advantage,” said President Obama.

Mister Obama said he would hold a national science fair next year to honor young inventors the same way college and professional athletes celebrate their victories at the white house.
