U.S. District Court Judge J. Michael Seabright sentenced 57-year-old Ashford Kaipo Spencer to 17 years in prison for selling methamphetamine, or crystal ice, on two occasions to an individual cooperating with law enforcement.
Spencer, of Waimanalo, was found guilty by a jury last June. According to prosecutors, Spencer sold about two ounces of methamphetamine in April and June 2009 for $6,000 and $5,600 near the Waimanalo Shopping Center.
Florence Nakakuni, United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, said that Spencer's two prior felony convictions involving kidnapping/robbery and criminal property damage in state court were a factor in determining the length of his sentence.
