UH Football ticket sales are up

By Manolo Morales

Fans are excited about the season. And it's paying off at the box office.

Twenty-one thousand 600 season tickets have been sold so far. That's 34-hundred more than what was sold last year. There's plenty of buzz over quarterback and Heisman hopeful Colt Brennan.

"Big passes, you got Colt in town and you know June Jones loves to throw, so big plays, that's what I'm going for," says Zac Thielen, UH Football fan.

"He's good I'm excited to watch him play this year. He just gets better every year," says Jackie Mcloughlin, UH Football fan.

But UH officials say it's the bigger picture that's getting fans hyped about going to Aloha Stadium.

"Certainly Colt's return has been a real plus for this program but I think overall, everyone recognizes the excellence that June has done with this program and taking it to another level," says US Associate Athltic Director, John McNamara.

Pay-per-view has taken a chunk out of the overall attendance. But there are still plenty of fans who'd rather see the Warriors in person.

"When you watch it on TV you're not really part of the experience. I think the whole game experience is a lot better than just watching it on TV," says Stewart Mallory, UH Football fan.

The excitement is also boosting sales at the university's Rainbow-tique shops. UH athletic wear especially football shirts are selling more as Warrior fever heats up.

"I've never been to a college football game before so I plan to go to all of them and wear some of these shirts," says Mckenna Von Koppen, UH Football fan.

"I don't even have to look up when the game is because everyone's gonna talk about it. It's hard to miss," says Mcloughlin.

More students are also taking advantage of discounted tickets through the Manoa Maniacs program, priced at 30-dollars for this season's home games, plus a t-shirt. Opening game is September 1st.
