Dogs Help Find Stabbing Victim in Waialua

By Andrew Pereira

“Keith” knew something was wrong when he found his two dogs in the middle of an old cane haul road in Waialua early Friday morning, away from their usual pen at a makeshift homeless camp.

“Keith” who did not want to reveal his last name had just come from his home in Wahiawa to feed his two dogs, Bule and Honey Girl, when he noticed the pit bull mixed breeds acting strange.

One dog in particular, Honey Girl, insisted that Keith follow her into the nearby bushes.

“My dogs respond to me pretty much,” he said, “but she ran away.”

Keith was stunned when he found what had drawn the dogs’ interest, a badly bleeding man sitting in the bushes near the cane haul road. The dirt road is located off Waialua Beach Road near Waialua District Park.

Keith says the man had two puncture wounds over his ribs on the right side of his body and that the victim “was turning pale.”

Sensing there was no time to waste he got as close as possible to the victim by driving his friend’s Ford Bronco through the thick brush. Keith then helped the bleeding man into the SUV and drove him to the Waialua Fire Station where paramedics placed him on a stretcher.

Police say the 32 year old victim was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. “We have a tentative ID,” said Honolulu Police Detective Fred Denault of the victim, “but so far no suspects.”

By late Friday morning the victim had been upgraded to serious condition but remains in a medically induced coma to help his recovery. Paramedics told Keith the man may have died if it wasn’t for him and his two dogs.

“I hope the guy is alright,” said Keith, “I hope he pulls through.”
