Local artist starting a record label

By Kirk Matthews

A year and a half ago, we found shawn livingston moseley getting his stuff out of storage. he came home to be a part of hawaii's music scene.

"I moved away from Hawaii, went to Berklee College of Music and studied music production, engineering, songwriting and film scoring. Worked in New York, San Francisco, Boston over the course of 14 years at major studios, major labels, i worked at mtv for a little while, just to learn as much as i could to bring it back home," says Shawn Livingston Moseley, artist/producer.

Along with musical instruments and production equipment, Shawn brought home a big dream - - to start his own record label.

"My goal is to actually - the full spectrum. the label is Aumakua records and the idea is it's there to protect the artist, to help the artist and that's why i named it so," says Moseley.

As a way to raise money to fund the label, Shawn and friends will stage a concert on June 2nd at Mamiya theatre.

"So I'm kind of debuting basically 14 years of writing. And I'm bringing on stage with me jeff peterson who's a phenomenal guitar player, actually won a grammy in Hawaii," says Moseley.

During his time on the mainland, shawn worked with the big labels. The problem with the big boys, he says, is they spend a lot of time making money - -

"And so little time on nurturing the artist and pre-production. So I've kind of seen the gaps that I've been filling because it's just sort of like - the label just wants a package deal, they want the finished record now and they don't want to take time to make it," says Moseley.

Along with Shawn's original music at the june concert, there will be an art show in the lobby, many guest artists and the screening of a silent film -

"Which i'll score live at the concert and I've also invited Iona contemporary dance theatre to perform in the second half of the show. so it should be something else," says Moseley.

That may be the understatement of the year.
