Three Arrested for Attempted Murder

By Olena Rubin

A 21 year-old man, identified by friends and family as Rooney Racoma Jr. remains in the intensive care unit at Queens Medical Center following a fight involving two groups of men in Wahiawa.

Some Wahiawa residents say something bad has been brewing between the men who live from Ohai Street and California Avenue.

“People they drink and sometimes they get into fights,” witness James Freitas said.

According to police, two groups of men were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation Saturday night.

Witnesses say they heard yelling.

"I ran outside and there was probably about 10 or 15 guys just fighting in the road, just baseball bats, you could here them hitting them in the head,” witness Rusty Payne said.

Police say one of the men was struck on the head with a blunt object.

"I seen them beating up one guy in particular there was maybe like four guys around him and then they hit him with something and he just fell to the ground,” Payne said.

The man was knocked unconscious.

“They ran away and then came back and then stomped on his head by then his eye was hanging out and everything,” Payne said.

“A police officer came by himself, he drove his car right in the middle of all the guys that was fighting and he jumped out and he stopped the fight right there by himself, he didn't have any back up or anything like that,” Freitas said.

Neighbors say other officers followed.

According to police three men were taken to the hospital one of them in critical condition.

"I just hope he doesn't die and take somebody to die to stop all these guys from fighting with each other cause if they keep on fighting people going be dieing its senseless its useless,” Freitas said.

Neighbors say drugs and alcohol have led to violence that is getting out of hand.

“This is like the third or fourth time in maybe two months that these guys have problems fighting with these guys over there, it’s an on going thing with these guys they don't stop,” Payne said.

“All these guys get along with each other and just keep the peace because we all got to live here together you know,” Freitas said.

Police arrested three men for attempted murder and assault. They remain in police custody…the investigation is underway.
