Consumers Not Skimping on Mother's Day

Phones are ringing off the hook...And business is blooming. All leading up to Mother's day.

"Everybody has a mother. so we have to work very hard," says Florist, June Nakamoto.

With stacks of orders ready and waiting to ship out.

"It would probably be like 800-900 orders"

The ringning is music to their ears. Like many in the industry,

They say this year - the love for mom will trump any fears about the economy.

"It seems like people are still spending on the mom's," says Florist, Celeste Farinas.

"No, no they don't skimp on mom," says Nakamoto.

In fact - more american's are likely to spend than skimp. Dishing out an estimated $3.5 billion eating out Sunday alone. That more than doubles the average daily spending at restaurants.

"Oh gosh you know, you have, listen to the phone it's continuously ringing," says Chuck Furuya, Hiroshi Restaurant.

"I bet you every restaurant, can do two to three times as much business as they're gonna end up doing, it's that busy every one goes out."
No matter how you slice it - Sunday is the restaurant industry's bussiest day of the year. Nearly all restaurants are booked up. And this year is no exception.

"By mother's day we'll definately have a waiting list," says Furuya.

"Yeah we're not really skimping this year, it's for your mom, that's the most important person in my life is my mom," says Hawaii Kai Resident, Brian Ko. "What's a couple dollars to spend on her."

And for mom - money is no object. The National Restaurant Association says the economy is having little affect on spending for mother's day.

In fact spending is estimated to go up by almost fifteen-percent compared to last year.
