NOAA officials say an abandoned seal pup rescued last week is eating, swimming and playing.

The seal pup was no more than a day old when rescuers found it on a Kauai beach.

Unable to reacquaint the pup with its mother, rescuers brought it to a facility on Oahu.

Officials say the pup has gained a bit of weight and appears to be better hydrated.

Three times a day, care-givers raise the water level in his pool so he can swim and play.
