UH Manoa campus on high alert

By Tammy Mori

Officials say earlier today a man threatened to harm students.

A little after noon, a student aboard a bus heard a passenger talking to himself making threats towards students.

The man got off at a Mccully bus stop and the student notified campus security.

UH officials sent out a mass e-mail to alert students, faculty, and staff about the suspicious man.

"One thing we've learned from Virginia Tech is that its better to be safe than sorry and that's what we're trying to do," says Gregg Takayama, University of Hawaii spokesman.

UH says it did "not" bring in any extra security guards or police.

Authorities say the suspect is a man in his forties, with salt and pepper hair.
