A busy area near Ala Moana Center is about to get busier.
The Keeaumoku Walgreens is expanding to include more floors and also to make room for a three-level parking structure.
Nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken closed last month to make way for a bigger Walgreens.
The expansion plan was presented Tuesday night to the Ala Moana Kakaako neighborhood board, who had questions about pedestrian safety.
"On the sidewalk areas, those when will be open and covered and be lit so it will be protected both for night and for daytime," DCK Pacific Construction Bob Leger said.
"For both DCK and Walgreens, safety is paramount for this area, both for vehicles and pedestrian people. What we plan on doing is number one we will have a security person on staff when we're not there. We will also be providing a high-profile fence," Leger said.
Construction could start in December, and last for about a year.
The Keeaumoku store opened in 2007, taking over the former Tower Records site.
