A bystander at the Honua Kai Resort in Kaanapali called for help after seeing a 3-year-old girl floating in the pool about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Thomas Gallegos a registered nurse and his brother-in-law, Mike Westbrook a firefighter paramedic, both visiting from California, responded.
Captian Kevin McAfee of the Maui Fire Department says, "... Mr. Gallegos and Mr. Westbrook, set in motion the precise actions and treatment the patient required at that moment to survive this incident."
Rescue crews arrived and took the girl to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
About 40 students got sick and 25 of them, along with two adults, were taken to the hospital. Officials are now taking a look at what they ate for lunch.
