Tropical Storm Flossie is over 2,000 miles east of Hilo, and is expected to strengthen over the next 36 hours. Winds are 40 mph gusting to 52 mph.
At 48 hours the storm will encounter unfavorable weather conditions and could weaken back to a tropical depression as it crossed into the Central Pacific. There is a chance of some extra showers for Hawaii mid-week next week but it still to far out to be fully certain.

One person is dead following a plane crash in waters off Kalaupapa, Molokai, according to Maui Fire Department officials.
