The Honolulu Emergency Services Department says a man in his 20s went unconscious while surfing at Tonggs surf break.
Officials say the surfer was found unresponsive in the water by other surfers in the area around 2:35 p.m. Tuesday.
Ocean Safety officials brought the man to Kaimana Beach by jet ski.
Lifeguards performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
